Sugarplums On Stage

The Sugarplum program is a memorable experience for second grade girls and a long-standing Denver tradition. A season of fun, friendship, and ballet appreciation culminates with The Sugarplum Ball followed by an on-stage presentation at the Colorado Ballet’s magical performance of the Nutcracker. There are many activities for Sugarplums including the mother-daughter tea, a father-daughter bowling party, and an ornament exchange at the Colorado Ballet studios.

Benefits: The Sugarplum fee covers the girl’s attendance at the following events:

  • May/June: Dress Fitting
  • September: Mother’s Informational Coffee
  • September: Mother-Daughter Tea (individual program portrait photographed)
  • October: Father-Daughter Event with Sugarplums & Alums
  • November: Holiday Party
  • November: Sugarplum Ball
  • November: Sugarplum Presentation
  • Community service activities throughout the season

In addition, participants in the Sugarplum program will receive:

  • Sugarplum dress, slip, tights, ballet slippers, and hair bow
  • Tickets for two adults and the Sugarplum for the Sugarplum Ball, THE NUTCRACKER performance and stage presentation
  • Ticket for a Colorado Ballet matinee performance (fall or spring depending on the Ballet schedule)

  • Parents listed as contributors to the Colorado Ballet’s Annual Fund

Applications: Applications for the 2012 Sugarplum were due January 31, 2012. Applications for the 2013 year will be posted in November 2012. The child’s parent MUST be a member of the Colorado Ballet Auxiliary at the time of application and for the entire length of the program. (Join or Renew Now!)

Due to the overwheming interest in this program, it has become necessary to limit the number of girls accepted into the program each year. Only girls who will be in second grade at the time of presentation will be considered. Though the Auxiliary hopes to include every family wishing to participate, some years it is impossible to accommodate all applicants. An anonymous committee will review each application thoroughly, thus it is important for the sponsor and parents to fill in the application as completely as possible.

Fees: The fee for participation in the Sugarplum program is currently $2000. This amount may be paid in full by May 10th of the year in which the girl is to be presented or divided in half, with the balance due on July 1st of the same year.
